Understanding Denplan Care Categories: What They Mean and Why Your Fee Can Change

At Whitland Dental Co, we're proud to offer Denplan Care as part of our commitment to making high-quality dentistry accessible and affordable. But we know that receiving your annual fee review letter can sometimes prompt questions — so let us explain exactly how the system works.

What Are the Denplan Care Categories?

After an initial assessment by the dentist of your oral health, you will be placed into one of five fee categories. High Street Dental These are labelled A through to E, with Category A representing patients with the simplest oral health needs and Category E reflecting those requiring a more complex level of ongoing care.

Restorative history and plaque control level form the foundation of the Denplan Care Oral Health Assessment across Categories A, B, C, D and E. Denplan Your dentist will also factor in your gum health, periodontal status, tooth wear, and the number of existing fillings, crowns, and other restorations present in your mouth.

As a guide, patients are typically Category B or C. Aesdent

Why Might Your Category Change?

Your oral health is not static — it evolves over time. Your dental team may review the amount you pay due to changes in your oral health. Denplan

This can happen for a number of reasons:

  • Gum disease develops or worsens — increasing the monitoring and hygiene support you need

  • Additional restorations — new fillings, crowns or bridges added to your dental history increase your care score

  • Tooth wear — now formally included in Denplan's assessment as a recognised and growing concern

  • Improved oral health — a category decrease is also possible if your mouth becomes significantly healthier over time

Why Do Fees Increase Annually?

Monthly fees take into account many factors, such as the increased cost of equipment, staff training, and building maintenance, among others. Your monthly payment is also based on your individual dental health and determined on the care and treatment your dentist expects to provide you over the next 12 months. Denplan

In short, running a safe, high-quality dental practice costs more every year — and your plan fee reflects that reality honestly.

Our Promise to You

At Whitland Dental Co — a proud Denplan Excel accredited practice — we review your care category with transparency and clinical integrity. Although Denplan collects your payments, your fees are actually set by your dental team. Denplan If you ever have questions about your category or fee, please don't hesitate to speak to us — we'll always take the time to explain.
